My name is Justin Holcombe. I write dark romantasy as K.W. Beckett and science fiction as Kayden Beckett. I live in Sumter, South Carolina.

I have been writing since I was sixteen. The first real story I worked on was about a boy whose girlfriend died in a tornado — his grief, his slow way back, and the girl who showed him how to love again. I didn’t finish it. I didn’t finish most of what I started. For twenty-four years I kept having ideas faster than I could complete them, and the pile of unfinished things grew and I kept writing anyway.

At forty, I finished Bloodright. It is the first story I saw all the way through to the last page.

I am albino and legally blind. I have limited use of my left arm following a stroke at birth. I wrote every word of this book on a computer in Sumter, South Carolina, the same way I have been writing since I was a teenager — one sentence at a time, for as long as I could see the screen.

I have been shaped by writers who take their characters seriously. James S.A. Corey and The Expanse showed me what science fiction could do when it trusted its readers. I have tried to bring that same trust to everything I write, regardless of genre.

I live with my girlfriend Mariah and our dog Vergil, who was named after a Devil May Cry character and has fully lived up to it.

I intend to keep going.
